Filipino-American Steve Austria was elected as the representative of the 7th congressional district of Ohio.
Steve Austria is the second Filipino-Ameican to get a US Congress seat. The first is Robert Cortez Scott who is currently on his eighth term as Virginia’s 3rd district representative.
Prior to winning the Congress position, he is a state senator from Beavercreek.
Steve Austria is the son of a Filipino doctor who fought alongside US forces in the Philippines during World War II.

Ambassador Hilario Davide Jr., the Permanent Representative of the Philippines to the United Nations made his mark in history as he becomes the second recipient of the prestigious “Spirit of the UN” Award.
Davide is best remembered on his participation to former President Joseph Estrada’s impeachment. He is received the “Spirit of the UN” Award for his exemplary work on promoting spirituality and values in the world body.
The first ever “Spirit of the UN” Award was given to the Ambassador Anwarul Chowdhury of Bangladesh for his life-long dedication to peace, human rights, and justice.
