I did say that Himala Could Get CNN’s Viewers Choice Award 3 weeks ago and it did!
Himala was voted as the best Asian film in history. Congrats to the late Ishmael Bernal who directed it and my mentor Ricky Lee wrote it.
Himala defeated famous films such as Akira Kurosawa’s “Seven Samurai” and Ang Lee’s “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon.
Here’s the complete list of competitors:

2. Mou Gaan Dou (Infernal Affairs) from Hong Kon
3. Old Boy from South Korea
4. Sen to Chihiro no Kamikakushi (Spirited Away) from Japan
5. Pather Panchali from India

Nora Aunor in Himala - Directed by Ishmael Bernal - Written by Ricky Lee
Himala, one of the real classic Filipino films is one of the ten films vying for its APSA Viewers Choice Award.
Himala was chosen as one of the Top 18 Asian Films earlier. CNN put up an online poll where surfers can vote for the film which was directed by Ishmael Bernal and written by Sir Ricky Lee. The voting is only until October 11, so guys vote for this film. The winner will be announced on November 11 at the Asia Pacific Screen Awards, Australia’s Gold Coast.
Himala is fitted against other films such as Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon from China, The Seven Samurai from Japan, Gabbeh from Iran, Gallipoli from Australia, Pather Panchali from India, Spirited Away from Japan, Oldboy from South Korea, Infernal Affairs from Hong Kong/China, and Chungking Express from China.
I like the other films too but I would be happy if Himala wins this one. I’m calling all Filipinos to vote for Himala by following this link. Bloggers kindly do the same!
